Spot the Golf Balls Competition

How many golf balls can you see? Using the illustration key provided, list the total number of golf balls that have mysteriously strayed on to this allotment and briefly (via the comment box) list their location. The winner will be randomly selected from the correct entries and have their name inscribed on a special competition trophy illustration, to be published on this blog.

The winner will also receive a special message of congratulation from our honorary competition judge the Supercilious Owl. Results are to be announced after the next thunderstorm (local not global). Good Luck!

  2. VP, thanks for your quick response, but the Supercilious Owl has spotted a technical problem with the illustration, which has now been fixed. Many apologies please feel free to have another go (this does not necessarily mean your answer was wrong).

  3. All hail the Supercilious Owl!

I did wonder about another place the first time round, but I'll stick with my original guess and let others ponder where on earth I might be talking about ;)

  4. I reckon that there are six - on top of the large bin, among the strawberries, under the fox, among the potatoes to the right of the cane wigwam, in the wheel barrow and just in front of the watering can.

  5. Flighty, I think the judge will be impressed with the sharpness of your eyesight (as am I) can't wait till the next thunderstorm, when all will be revealed.

  6. I think six, possibly seven. 1) in middle of potato patch, 2)next watering can, 3) next to fox, 4) in Wheel-barrow, 5) in strawberry bed, 6) in large bin. The 7th, which I'm not sure about, is possibly just behind the top water bottle in bed m.

You've got a nice little cash-crop there to sell back to the golfers at 50p a ball.

  7. Yes Phil, I've decided to use the stray golf balls as a retirement fund, my financial adviser says about 165,000 balls should make me fairly comfortable, that is apart from the backache after picking them all up.

  8. I can only see 5 a,f,s watering can and fox.
If only golf balls were the only problem on my plot!

  9. some very keen observations A of V. Talking of which, at first I thought the photo of a large slug on your blog was a potato (I don't think the supercilious owl would be impressed).

  10. hmmm, hmmm, hmmm, 6 no 7 no 6 no 7. I'm sure there are 6 in the same locations Phil's said (I did look at the picture first before reading comments I promise). I think there's a 7th too between the quince and the strawberry bed (the 'quince' covered by the strawberry netting looks more golf ball like than the rest on the bush ). Or perhaps I'm just trying too hard!

  11. Perhaps (I am not allowed to say), but I'm starting to think the judge is going to be angry with me for not making the illustration clearer. Hopefully he won't fly off in a supercilious huff.

  12. I hope I am not too late to play.

I am playing with my nephew and we have counted 8 golf balls.
    1 by fox, 1 by top plot t, 1 by watering can on top, 2 by the bean pole - plot o, 1 in wheelbarrow - s, 1 in f and 1 in a.

  13. Hello Shaheen, no you are not too late. There has been no thunder here yet and then we still have to wait for the judge to arrive (he lives in borneo). So there's still plenty of time to spot the golf balls, which seem to be multiplying!

  14. 1 by the watering can
    1 in the strawberry bed
    1 on the large bin
    1 in the wheelbarrow
    1 by the fox

If the wind blows, we may find more hidden under leaves. Or fewer because creatures have rolled them away. If I think about it long enough, I might be able to decide if there's a golf ball sitting on a potato plant. Perhaps it's hanging on a string from the wigwam . . . or maybe it's a bird food ball (or even a blob).

For this reason, I'll have two goes please.

One is for 5 and one for 6 (depending on the whether the blob is a ball).

Thanks for following my blog. I'm delighted it led me to this (and to Leonardo). Brilliant!

  15. Thank you Esther, clever idea having to goes (not sure how the judge will respond), I see the difficulty you (and others) are having, I suppose all sorts of blobs can take on golf ball like qualities if you look at them long enough,
    better not say any more.

  16. Oh your making me think if some of the golf balls are blobs. But I will stick with 8.

  17. Sorry Shaheen, did not mean to try to influence you. I'm sure the judge will like the number 8 as it does look a bit like an owl without a tail or ears -well sort of.

  18. not sure what you mean Ana, but thanks for sharing it
